Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have a shop?
Yes, we have a showroom in the barn at Glandford Barns, just by the coastal villages of Blakeney and Cley. The shop is open from 9:30 - 4:30 on weekdays and from 11- 5 on Saturdays.
Is everything made in Norfolk?
Almost all our collection is made locally here in North Norfolk. However some of our newer items like our jumpers, wool hats and gloves come from further afield, though all still in the UK. Any jumper makers out there in Norfolk do get in touch !
By hand?
Yes.
How quickly are goods usually dispatched?
Goods in stock are ready for dispatch within three working days. Once dispatched they will arrive in a couple of days. We can do next day delivery if you need something in a rush - just get in touch with us before 2pm Monday to Thursday (excluding bank holidays) so we can arrange.
What if I order something and it isn’t in stock?
If something isn’t in stock we can make it for you. Of course, we’ll get in touch with you to let you know and if you’ve ordered other items that are in stock, whether you want those to arrive at the same time or separately.
Returns: what if it doesn’t fit or I don’t like it?
At Carrier Company we take pride in our customer service. If you are dissatisfied with your purchase please return it to us along with your order number. Provided it arrives back in its original condition and within 28 days, we will be happy to arrange a replacement or refund of the item. (Let us know which). If you do wish to exchange a product we will send you the item free of any additional charges. Also please clearly state the reason for return - it will help us to ensure our website and quality of products meets our customers' expectations.
You can phone or email us using the details on the contact page.
What do you mean when you say waterproof?
Waterproofing is measured in terms of water resistance to pressure, or in the real world, how long they will keep you dry when exposed to water. Our canvas guards against rain and brief submersion in the brine, whilst our capes will withstand prolonged exposure to rain and snow. Whilst keeping things dry is important, we also select our materials to look good and age well.
In some of the images, the clothes look different to the items on sale. Why is that?
The old smocks, jackets and jerkins you see in the images are all our own Carrier Company clothes. It is really important to us that our products not only last a long time, but that they improve in appearance over the years; we want to show you not only what you buy when you place an order but also what you will 'get' after years of wear and washing.
My handles have worn out. Can I get them mended?
For those who can’t stop using our bags we offer a handle replacement service at a cost of £8 for jute handles and £12.50 for leather.
Can I get that bag with longer handles and in a different colour?
Yes. We can do anything within reason! While we don’t offer a bespoke service, we do custom orders such as longer or shorter handles on bags, and some items of clothing in different materials. If you have something in mind, just give us a call.
Why does my product looks slightly different to the one in the picture?
We make all our goods by hand and usually to order so as a result, there are sometimes inconsistencies in production. While we like the individual and idiosyncratic we totally understand if you don’t so are happy to exchange or refund.
